Save the Date for the 208th VMS Annual & Collaborative Meeting - Nov. 5 & 6

Please join the VMS, in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics Vermont Chapter, Vermont Academy of Family Physicians and the Vermont Psychiatric Association for the 2021 VMS Annual Meeting on November 5 and 6th, 2021 at the Topnotch Resort in Stowe, VT!  

This year's event will feature both in-person and virtual options to participate and will pack a lot into a shorter time span. The meeting will start Friday afternoon at 4pm and will end at roughly 4pm on Saturday. Join us for the AAPVT, VTAFP and VPA meetings & receptions respectively, Awards Dinner, VMS Business Meeting and collaborative educational sessions. Included will be some relaxing networking and social activities at the beautiful Topnotch Resort.

Vermont Health Care Professional Guidance During COVID-19 Rescinded

The Agency of Human Services and Vermont Department of Health have officially rescinded their Guidance for Licensed Health Care Providers During COVID 19. The AHS statement and VDH statement clarify that licensed professionals are expected to follow current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as amended, the standard of care, as well as all relevant laws and regulations relevant to the licensees’ practice.  Please see the VMS Rounds from June 15, 2021 outlining CDC and new OSHA guidance that health care practices must implement. Green Mountain Care Board Nominating Committee Appointed 

In anticipation of the upcoming vacancy on the Green Mountain Care Board (GMCB), the GMCB Nominating Committee has now been fully appointed. This Committee is charged with evaluating eligible candidates to provide the Governor with qualified nominees so he can name a replacement for Board member Maureen Usifer whose term is up in September 2021. The GMCB Nominating Committee Appointees are:

  • Betsy Bishop (Governor appointee)
  • Grace Banon (Governor appointee)
  • Tom Huebner (Governor appointee)
  • Sen. Ginny Lyons (Senate appointee)
  • Sen. Chris Pearson (Senate appointee)
  • Mercedes Avila, PhD, (Senate appointtee)
  • Rep. Lori Houghton (House appointee)
  • Rep. Anne Donahuse (House appointee)
  • Ellen Starr, WHNP, (House appointee)

VMS is strongly encouraging health care professionals to apply for the open seat and we will keep you up to date when the opening is officially posted. A job description for prior openings can be found here. The annual salary for a board member is currently $107,000 and Board members can be part-time and have outside work. Board members may practice medicine and be a non-management employee of a hospital or other health care facility, but would be required to recuse themselves from any Board matters which involve their employer. Candidates need not resign these positions prior to accepting a position. Candidates who apply will first be reviewed by a Nominating Committee; qualified candidates are then forwarded to the Governor, who makes the Board appointments with the consent of the Senate.           VPQHC Expands Health Equity Training Offerings Due to High Demand!

          The Vermont Program for Quality Health Care (VPQHC) has expanded the free health equity training offerings that qualify health care professionals for 3 CME credits, entitled, "Structural Competence and Cultural Humility to Address Disparities and Inequities." This training is being provided by Dr. Maria Mercedes Avila, PhD, MSW, MED and is currently waitlisted through May. Register here.

          Due to the COVID-19 emergency, Vermont Health Connect has opened a Special Enrollment Period through August 15, 2021. During this time, any uninsured Vermonter can sign up for a qualified health plan through Vermont Health Connect. Qualified families can also get financial help paying for coverage.
