VMS Seeks Clarity Regarding Process for Health Care Employee TestingVMS continues to work with state officials and other health care associations to clarify the details on COVID-19 testing of asymptomatic health care staff. In the meantime, practices should note the following:
- To comply with the Governor’s latest health care reopening guidance, practices that perform “outpatient surgeries and procedures” must submit a plan for employee testing within 7 days of resuming non-urgent care
- The plan must include patient-facing health care workers at the practice, including those who are asymptomatic
- There is some indication that the administration wants testing of health care staff at all practices, regardless of whether they perform procedures, but this has not been stated formally
- E-mail plan to Ena Backus, Director of Health Care Reform at ena.backus@vermont.gov and Laurie.Hurlburt@vermont.gov
- The plan will be reviewed by a “testing task force” at VDH. In the short term, practices may be asked to tweak the plan. VDH may develop best practices to share.
- Staff getting tested at a state pop-up site “counts” as staff testing
